Her mother
had told her they named her Gudiya, because she looked like an absolute
doll when was born. And it was such a pleasure to just look at her face. Her
parents adored her, even when their relatives and villagers said that a girl
child is a burden to the family. But her father made sure she had a perfect
childhood with no discrimination from her older brother and she got proper education
and was strong enough to live life.
But
today while waiting in this pathetic clinic for her turn, she couldn’t hold her
tears. They didn’t even give her a choice. Everyone just decided and stubbornly
made her a puppet.
“Gudiya
Ghour … Gudiya Ghour… “
She got
up and instead of going into the doctor’s room, she walked out of the clinic.
If it meant to leave her husband and his family to keep her daughter alive,
then she’s going to do that. She was determined to give her daughter everything
her father gave her.

So proud of her for making such a bold choice! Female infanticide is an issue prevalent in our country even today. If only all mothers were like her. Well said, Sheethal!
ReplyDeletebeautiful..! difficult choice for the woman...but we need more like her.

Total respect for Gudiya for making that choice and for her parents, who instilled in her such values.

Well done Gudiya. Not an easy thing to do.
ReplyDeleteVery nice story, Sheethal. We need more women like this going against their families, if required, to give their girl babies life.
ReplyDeleteWhy society has to be so tough on women... brilliantly portrayed.
ReplyDeleteThat's a choice every mother should make. Very well written Sheethal.
ReplyDeleteThat's a choice every mother should make. Very well written Sheethal.
ReplyDeleteChoice may not be given but it is ours to make the choice! Good that she took the right step.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is so beautifully written. The love Gudiya receives as a child gives her strength enough to save her daughter when she's an adult. I love the juxtaposition of her perfect childhood to the horror she is expected to participate in when she's an adult.
ReplyDeleteA lil tough, but that's the right choice she made.. proud of her..
ReplyDeleteP.S: My nick name is Gudiya :)
Cheers
oww.. its heart wrenching.. I hate it that the woman has no choice over her own body. Sad.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! Importance of choice! Loved how you narrated! :)
ReplyDeleteNice & moving story...I too have a cousin named Gudiya..
ReplyDeleteGlad she stood up for herself and her daughter. Not an easy thing to do. Nicely done, Sheethal.

Amen for her! I would have done the same thing to give her daughter the chance to live like she got to live.
ReplyDeletebetty
Good for her that she made that decision! :) Female foeticide is cruel and downright criminal!
ReplyDeleteWay to go Gudiya :) :)
ReplyDeleteShe did the right thing ... powerful post.
ReplyDeleteGood choice. I would have done the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThere should be more strong women like this! Gudiya's upbringing served her well. ☺
