Today is K day!
Keep a Journal!
“Always carry a notebook. And I mean always. The short-term memory only retains information for three minutes; unless it is committed to paper you can lose an idea for ever.” - Will Self
This is one thing I follow almost religiously. Wherever I go, I'll be having a diary with me. Now these days I have even downloaded a Diary app in my phone too. Scribbling down my insane thoughts and goals and dreams became more of an habit.
Keeping a journal is like keeping your memories locked up. And whenever you want you could just open it and cherish the moments once more. I have been writing journals from my 5th grade and now when I read those, I am surprised at the way I was then. These journals definitely gives us an idea about how we were and how we are now. And they just store away those days of our lives which may get erase from our memory cells as age creeps up.
P.S. Treasure your memories and don't let them be wasted.
God Blez.
Great post! Reminds me that I need to journal more often. I start out with great intentions and before I know it a month or more go by without doing it.
ReplyDeleteGet started again. :)
DeleteI've never been able to keep up with a journal. I start one and then give up- over and over again. Perhaps i will try one more time!
ReplyDeleteYea one more time. And this time you are gonna make it to the end. :)
DeleteYup. I write daily, and have for nearly 20 years. Actually, journaling has taught me to shelf information in a certain brain compartment so it can be retrieved later. Do you know how invaluable that is for writing? I mean, is there a monetary value for such a valuable skill?
ReplyDeleteOf course, the memory is starting to grow less reliable. I'm super grateful for the dozens of journals tucked away in my cedar chest. Invaluable.
Journaling gave me a love in writing away my thoughts and inspired me to read more so I could learn new words and use it in my daily journals. :)
DeleteThis is so true. I love to keep journals myself! And as for blogs, aren't they journals too? Reading my old write-ups is one of my guilty pleasures.

Blogs are in a way journals too. But aren't those hand written ones more personal?
DeleteI have never kept a journal, but I do have a notepad app on my phone. I mostly use it to remember novel and story ideas for my writing because there is nothing worse then remembering about the awesome idea that you had yesterday, but not actually remembering what the idea was.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that. It irtitates the hell out of me to forget something I so badly wanted to pen down but couldn't.
DeleteWell said. I have the two notebooks I used for journals during the summer of 1984 when the Olympics came to California and I went to the Netherlands. I learned a lot that summer, and I'm so glad I wrote most of it down!
ReplyDeleteWow! I would love to get my hands on those treasures. :) It would be nice to know how the Olympics was happening then.
DeleteAs much as I love actual paper and pen, I use my phone for this very thing. With all the possibilities around me, and the many things I want to remember or learn more about, I love being able to keep track of them. The thing I have found that is BRILLIANT for me in terms of daily journaling is 750words.com.
ReplyDeleteVery nice post!

Thank you and glad you stopped here. :)
DeleteGreat idea on keeping a journal. I like the "locking the memories" away, so true. I wish I had started one sooner in my life.
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never. Start one from today. :)
DeleteI've never kept a diary or notebook, but I've always carried a notebook. These days, my notebook is my new smartphone. I'm constantly having ideas, and not just about writing. Sometimes they are for new websites or inventions. :)

Same here too. But I ll be having a small notepad too. These days smartphones have won over smartphones. But its pretty convenient too.
DeleteNow I was going to do that for N for Notebooks!!! Absolutely, always have a notebook and pencil handy! I have one next to the bed, one my desk, in the car, and in the kitchen. There is nothing in the world more frustrating than having a great idea or a description or a snippet of dialogue and then forgetting it.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Forgetting something that popped up in your mind before jotting it down ruins the whole day.
Delete:)
I have introduced my girls to journalling, gotta say they aren't loving it yet but they are 8 and 10 ... oops 11. I love the idea, my own blog is more of a journal than anything of interest to anyone. I often feel sorry for poor souls who wander over to it ... lol I did not know you could have a journal app, but am not surprised maybe the kids would prefer to do it that way?
