While I can't really say this is right, what I have experienced is that God has taken me away from not-the-best people with time to spare. That is good enough for me :-)

I tend to think God brings certain people into our lives at times to allow us to learn the lessons we most need, whether they're comfortable or not. He loves us enough to let us grow, even through pain.
I have the original verse pinned on my desk at work. It helps me remember to remind others that darkness doesnt last forever.
