The Ocean

There is something about the ocean and its waves. Something deep and profound. The more time you spend on its shores the more you're drawn towards it. The continuous waves lashing on the shores wash off all the grief that torments the heart and shows by example to continue no matter what obstacles come and to keep doing what you are supposed to instead of lamenting over the waste that others hurl at you. The sunsets do not bother the ocean for it knows that after night comes day and that the sun would rise again the next morning spreading light and joy and warmth.

When someone asked me why I love the ocean so much, all I could tell him was this :)

Lucy.

On one of those cold winter nights, cowering under the brightly lit Christmas tree, shivering more from the insensitive crowds that roamed about than the December chill I remember that I prayed for a miracle. Not for a miracle that would change my life, but one that would take me away from this selfish world where nobody cared about another's pain, where even when you were full you never shared your morsel with a starving man.

It was then that Lucy came along.

She didn't seem much better off than me but what clearly differentiated her from the crowd was her eyes. They shone with a kindness that was lacking in others. As she offered me her hand I expected at least a piece of bread or something to eat. Instead she took my palm and lead me to her home.

The first feeling that I got as I stepped into that little shanty was that it was so warm. The room, the inhabitants of the room - Lucy and her grandpa, were all so loving and welcoming.

Today, if I can read, its because of her. If I have a roof over my head, its because of the kindness Lucy showed me that night. She and grandpa are my family.

Lazy Ramblings

Today the nectar from the skies was showering down from morning. When in Middle East these drizzles are an added bonus. You just feel so good and happy. And the desert looked all fresh and rejuvenated after their "once in a blue moon" shower. So all over it was a blissful lazy rainy Saturday here.

But as the morning started to wore off, my DND (do not disturb) mode started to do a sneak peek from behind its hiding place. And the best thing of my life is, I was always lucky to meet people who matches my weirdness. Be it me in my irritating or cranky or DND or hyper active mode I know I could count on these people. And recently a friend of mine told, "I don't know why I talk to you. It's like even thou I can't stand you, I still can't ignore you too". And for me, that's friendship.

By the way, today is my parents wedding anniversary. The 32th year of their togetherness. Actually 32th year of their marriage life. Before that they had a "before marriage" love life. But they never disclose those details to me. I came to know that theirs was a love marriage through my cousin sister during our gossip sessions. That's the advantage of having a whole gang of cousins. You get to know all the "before you were born" family secrets. ;)

So Dad and Mom, Happy Anniversary. Even thou at times you both get into my nerves, you're the best parents a child could ever dream of. Thanks for been with me even when I was not a good daughter, even when I was arrogant and rude and for giving me a wonderful home and a beautiful family. I love you both.

P.S. I was too lazy to wake up my creative cells and do tolerate this ramblings of mine. :)

Of Tomorrows

As I lie under the stars wrapped in your arms, clothed in your love, your soft heart beats singing me the lullaby wanting me to drift peacefully off to sleep. Our legs intertwined like the tendrils of the wildflowers we plucked, hands holding each other in a tight embrace, leaving no gap for even the air to enter between us.

Your presence fills some unknown void in my heart and fills up my being with hopes and dreams of tomorrows we will welcome holding hands, of children who will be our gift to the world, of the numerous songs that will sing of us and celebrate our togetherness. This warmth that gives my heart a perpetual high, this closeness that comforts more than a warm blanket in winter, this sense of fulfillment that you alone create; if not love, then what!

You may now kiss the Bride....

He stood there staring at her. She's the most beautiful bride he had ever seen and those blue eyes of hers made him fall in love with her for the umpteenth time.

The first time they met, he felt magnetized looking at her eyes. She was happily blabbering away with her colleagues in the food court. Few days later they met again. And this time he went and introduced himself to her. From then, what started as perfect strangers turned to the most talked relationship among their friends. They looked perfect and complete together.

----------

"You may now kiss the bride."

----------

He kissed her for the first time rather impulsively. She was as usual talking nonstop, when he felt a sudden urge to kiss her. And before he knew it or she could complete what she was saying, his lips were on hers. Thou, it was just a peek that was the best kiss for him.

----------

She looked happy in his hands. And they looked beautiful together. But, before the newly weds could see him, he turned and walked away from there... silently giving them all his blessings.

The Dancing Lights

Off. On. Off. On.

The flickering lights were a daily thing now. At odd times of the night, when night would blanket the buildings, the whole neighborhood would go to sleep, leaving nothing but the streetlights on; the lights from that particular window of the apartment would begin their dance as if calling out to the stars, as if it was some kind of signal. Over the last few days I've noticed the flickering follows a pattern and wasn't just a random play with the light switch someone was up to.

My patience is not something I'm very proud of and off I went the very next day to investigate the mysterious dancing lights. Oddly enough, the building looked strange in the day time. Either the sunlight was playing with my eyes or my eyes were missing the comforting starlight in which I could easily tell which window blinked at me and which one was heightening my curiosity so much that I stayed awake during nights in spite of getting caught by that nasty boss for sleeping at work.

Loitering around the building a few more minutes, I decided to scoot off before the watchman concluded that I was planning to burgle there later on.

Off. On. Off. On.

There it was, again. I had to do something this time. It was pointless to go stalking blinking lights at midnight. My parents would confirm their worst fears that their only son had gone cuckoo. There was only one thing I could possibly do - try and get her attention all the while assuming that it was a girl who was doing this.

Off. On. Off. On.

I followed suit and waited to see if my signals had been noticed and whether there would be any response.

Off. OnOffOnOffOn.

Three times. It wasn't the normal practice. Usually there were only two repetitions and then it would be total darkness. Does that mean she saw my signal? My heart was beating somewhere in my throat and my curiosity knew no bounds.

I decided to signal again, impatient to see if there would be another set of the dancing lights.

Off. On.

OffOnOff.

That was the final straw. I needed to know what was happening and who was behind these dancing lights that were giving me sleepless nights. The  mystery girl who romanced the light switch had begun to occupy a special corner in my heart. It was impossible for me to sneak out of the house without waking mum. I would have to wait for few more days... till it was Saturday when I could go out late at night without my family raising their eyebrows at me.

Hoping that it would definitely be a 'she' who would probably have a sad heart breaking tale of a broken family or some other tragic personal tale that she would share with me tickled the writer in me as I turned over and closed my eyes.
